Is your fountain pump getting slower and slower? It may be the filter... here's how to clean that thing.
Unplug the pump.
Remove the pump from the container.
Remove the housing of the pump.
Remove the fibrous filter. At this point, you can either wash out the filter or just replace it with a fresh one from a store.
Wash out the filter. Reverse the flow of water through it to flush out the goop.
Reverse flush the pump as well. Use an appropriately sized bottle brush to get as much of the "stuff" off the inner pipes as you can.
Flush again.
Reassemble.
Replace the water.
Plug it back in and enjoy.
