New Delhi: Indian skipper Bhaichung Bhutia opines that India does have the resources to get the better of Syria in the Nehru Cup finals and added that the team would put in an improved display from the one showed on Saturday.
Syrians beat India 1-0 in what was an inconsequential game as both teams had already qualified for the finals. However, it was the West Asians who dominated the game and the Men in Blue weren’t at their best.
"I think all the players will raise their game and have a much better match than what they had on Saturday. It will be a very exciting occasion and I think that we have the resources to beat Syria," said the Indian skipper.
The Sikkimese Sniper added that the crowd would play it’s role and that the team shouldn’t dampen their spirits by conceding which would increase the pressure on his side.
"The crowd at the Ambedkar Stadium has been fantastic throughout this tournament so many thanks to everyone for their support. But if we concede a goal, the expectations of the fans might put a bit pressure on us so we have to be careful."
Sunil Chhetri echoed the words of his coach Bob Houghton and mentioned that individually none of the players can win the tournament for the country.
"I cannot win the game alone, neither can any other player. We can only win together so everybody has to play well.
"The supporters will be behind us throughout so hopefully we will fulfill their wishes by winning the Nehru Cup once again," said the Dempo striker.
