According to a report in The Sun, Manchester United are trying to sign a deal with either Cristiano Ronaldo or Tottenham's Gareth Bale. The Glazers will hand new boss David Moyes more money than ever before to land a deal.
Ronaldo took to Twitter rubbishing rumours that he was renewing his contract with Real Madrid. "All the news about my renewal with Real Madrid are false," he said via his official Twitter account.
The Portuguese star has been linked with a move away from La Liga with his contract with Los Blancos expiring only in 2015. But if he signs a new deal at Real, Moyes is set to splash a record £85 million pounds to land Tottenham's double Footballer of the Year, Bale.
Earlier, Real Madrid president Florentino Perez said had said: "I'd bet Cristiano will retire at Madrid because it's the natural thing."
Ronaldo has two years left at Santiago Bernabeu but his tweet has put United on alert, and they would be prepared to beat the record of 80 million pounds that they received from Real for Ronaldo in 2009. On the other hand, Tottenham Hotsupur are desperate to keep Bale in the team but a world record fee would be impossible to reject. The Welshman is also wanted by Real and Paris Saint-Germain.
