Indian-origin English footballer Michael Chopra, who plays for the Sachin Tendulkar co-owned Kerala Blasters in the inaugural Indian Super League, says India should focus on developing football from the grass root level.
"India need to focus on the grassroot development and should groom the talent from a young age. Coming from England, basic fascilities is must and all the clubs and coaching centres should have proper youth development," Chopra said in a chat with IBNLive Sports.
"Talent scouting from areas outside traditional football bases would be vital for the development of the game in the country," he added. However, Chopra refused to divulge his plan for Sunday's game against Atletico de Kolkata at the Salt Lake Stadium, Kolkata.
When asked about whether there is pressure on the team to perform, Chopra dismissed that thought altogether.
"I honestly don't feel any pressure. Especially with the team bonding we have. We as a team have gelled pretty well over past four weeks and coming from England, where fans abuse a lot during the match, I and the team are pretty relaxed. At end of the day, the team that plays well wins," he concluded.
