New Delhi: The English Football Association board has approved Fabio Capello's appointment as England's manager subject to the successful conclusion of contract negotiations.
The FA is happy with the Italian's £4-million-a-year salary though the finer points of the contract are being worked on.
The FA discussed Capello's appointment via a conference call at lunchtime on Thursday.
Capello has had an impressive career coaching teams like Juventus, AC Milan and Real Madrid winning nine titles.
Capello won the Champions League in 1994 with AC Milan, and was also an accomplished player, winning 32 caps for Italy.
Capello's first game in charge is expected to be a friendly against Switzerland at Wembley on February 6, with another friendly to follow against France in Paris on March 26.
