Following the game, former Manchester United defender Gary Neville took no prisoners in his assessment of the Erik ten Hag-coached side’s listless performance.

He labelled his former team’s performance as ‘shocking’ and a ‘disgrace.’ Other pundits, including former Liverpool and Tottenham midfielder Jamie Redknapp and ex-Manchester United defender Rio Ferdinand, also expressed their disappointment over the poor show from one of the biggest teams in England.

Speaking on Sky Sports, Gary Neville said, “This is a shocking day, a sobering day. This is a really bad day for Ten Hag. It’s one of the worst performances I have seen under Ten Hag. And that is saying something.” He further said, “It is really bad. Today has shocked me about how low they have gone.”

Redknapp says he felt a little bad for Ten Hag. “I’m seeing performances at the moment that are the kinds that get a manager sacked. I do feel sorry for the manager. He looks out of his depth, he looks lost,” he said.

He added that Ten Hag has been given enough time to make amendments. However, the ex-Reds midfielder now believes that the Dutchman might not be the right person to take the club forward. “I just don’t see how he can keep his job with these performances. I don’t see how he can turn it around. I think he’s had enough time. I know they’ve won two trophies, but I don’t see how he’s the man to take it forward,” Redknapp said.

Ferdinand expressed his views his YouTube channel Rio Ferdinand Presents.

Hitting out at his former club’s underwhelming show, he said, “An absolute p*** poor performance, I’ve got to be honest. Powder-puff, embarrassing, no real idea it seemed, no real fight.”

Manchester United’s latest fixture has now seen them collect just seven points from their opening six Premier League matches.

This has now led Ten Hag equalling unwanted records set by David Moyes and Ole Gunnar Solskjaer as the joining-worst start to a season since 1989.
