New Delhi: Former I-League champions Dempo Friday completed the acquisition of Japanese midfielder Shinnosuke Honda from Thai premier league football side Buriram United.
Honda, 23, is a 6 feet tall defender from Fukushima, Japan. Having represented Japan in the U-22 championships, he began his career at J-League side Jubilo Iwata before moving on to Buriram United in the Thailand Premier League. He was a member of Buriram squad which won the Thai premier League and Thai FA Cup in 2011. During his stint at Buriram United he spent two seasons on loan playing for Bangkok Glass FC.
Earlier this month, Honda was on trials with Dempo where he managed to impress upon their new coach Arthur Papas. Honda now becomes Dempo's fourth signing of the season after Beto, Billy Mehmet and Simon Colosimo. Honda will join the team in the first week of September.
Mohun Bagan Friday announced that it has selected Kenyan striker Harrison Eric Muranda as its fourth foreign recruit for the coming football season. The decision was arrived at after an extensive meeting between Chief Coach Karim Bencherifa and the club's football officials, Mohun Bagan general secretary Anjan Mitra said.
Eric was on trial from Aug 22. "The decision was taken after evaluating his past football records which includes his experience of playing in South East Asia, extensive trials, including assessing him as a player and also as a human being and comprehensive medical tests," said Mitra in a statement.
The other foreigners in the club are Nigerian forward Odafa Okolie, midfielder Katsumi Yusa of Japan and Nigerian defender Anyichie Echezona.
Shillong Lajong FC announced that Seikhohao Tuboi, who missed the last season due to an injury, would be fit for the upcoming I-League as they renewed the contract with the Manipuri forward. "A well structured and intensive health regime has ensured that Tuboi regain full fitness and will be a part of the team in the upcoming season," Shillong Lajong FC media manager said here today.
Commenting on the new deal with the club, the 24-year-old forward said he was looking forward to don the jersey again. "I cannot wait to get back on the field and start scoring goals again," Tuboi, who started training with the team, said. The Manipuri striker, who joined Shillong Lajong in the 2008-2009 season, had played a stellar role in helping Shillong Lajong FC qualify for the I-League in 2009-10.
