Spain's Administrative Court for Sport has rejected Real Madrid's request to temporarily drop its disqualification from the Copa del Rey for fielding an ineligible player.

A court official says "Madrid remains penalized, it is still disqualified" after the ruling on Friday. He spoke under anonymity according to court policy.

Madrid was eliminated in its opening round for fielding Denis Cheryshev in a first-leg 3-1 win over Cadiz on Dec. 2. Cheryshev was carrying a one-match suspension for yellow cards from last season, when he played for Villarreal on loan from Madrid.

The second leg was to be played next week.

Madrid originally appealed the sanction to the Spanish football federation, which upheld the decision to disqualify the club in a separate ruling on Thursday.
