Barcelona: Lionel Messi's double strike helped Barcelona take a 2-0 lead over AC Milan at the end of first half of the second leg of round of 16 Champions League fixture at Nou Camp here on Wednesday. Messi opened the scoring in the sixth minute collecting the ball on the edge of the area before curling a wonderful left-foot curler past Christian Abbiati.
The Argentine again found net in the 40th minute after Andres Iniesta handed Messi the ball on the edge of the area and the little man needed half a yard to fire his left-foot shot through the legs of Philippe Mexes and past Christian Abbiati to give Barcelona a 2-0 lead at half time.
The hosts kept the pressure on Milan defence right from the word go as the visitors looked all shaken up by the ultra aggressive tactics of their opponents. In the 15th minute, Andres Iniesta's right-foot volley from the edge of the area was touched onto the woodwork by the diving Christian Abbiati and then Lionel Messi headed the ball into the side netting. Stephan El Shaarawy got a long ball in the 19th minute but he scuffed his right-foot shot towards goal after running too wide and Victor Valdes collects.
The best chance for Milan came in the 41st minute when Mbaye Niang broke away from Barca defence and came inches away from scoring a goal. He was set clear before striking the far post with a right-foot effort.
