Arsenal set to conclude Andrei Arshavin swoop
He has been linked with moves to the Premier League since Euro 2008.

New Delhi: After the protracted transfer of Arshavin to the English giants, things finally seem to be coming to a close.

The Zenit St Petersburg playmaker is reportedly closing in on his much wanted transfer to Premier League side Arsenal after the player's agent revealed a deal could be finalised within the next few days.

The 27-year-old Russian star has been linked with moves to the Premier League since his influential performances for both club and county caught the eye of the major European clubs.

It was thought that he would make the move to Arsenal's bitter North London rivals Tottenham Hotspur last summer, with Zenit seemingly stalling on the fee.

The fee that Arsenal are reportedly about to pay for the Russian playmaker is around £15 million, which both clubs seem happy with, and it seems likely that a deal will go through sooner than expected.

The player's agent, Dennis Latcher, told the News of the World, "The deal should go through this week.

"Andrei wants to go, Arsenal want him and Zenit accept they have to sell.

"It's just a matter of sorting out the sums but the indication is it'll happen soon, perhaps within days."

The Russia international has played for Zenit throughout his career since he was promoted to the first team in 2000, and has made a total of 238 Russian league appearances for the club, scoring a respectable 51 goals.
