The 81st Venice Film Festival began on a stylish note with the screening of Jenna Ortega’s film, Beetlejuice Beetlejuice. The red carpet was graced by the stars of the film, including Jenna Ortega, Cate Blanchett, and Winona Ryder, among others.
What caught everyone’s attention was the Dior red tulle dress adorned by actor Jenna Ortega, who plays the character Lydia Deetz’s daughter, Astrid in the movie. Honouring the red voluminous gown worn by Lydia Deetz in the original 1988 film, Beetlejuice, Jenna added her own spin to the silhouette at the screening.
Jenna looked resplendent in the backless, vibrant ensemble, which featured a heart shaped ruffled bodice paired with a sheer tulle skirt. Adding a bold red lip to her glamorous style, Jenna accentuated her look further with statement jewellery and a classic updo highlighting her bangs. Jenna owned the red carpet with a couple of dramatic poses.
Jenna was later joined by evergreen star Wiona Ryder who was dressed in a cropped tuxedo and paired with a similar tulle skirt but in black. Also spotted looking ethereal was global star Cate Blanchett in an Armani Prive strapless silver gown, Monica Bellucci who dazzled in a custom Vivienne Westwood black gown with an exaggerated neckline and puffy sleeves.
The opening ceremony was also graced by actor Amy Jackson, who recently had a fairytale wedding in Italy. She looked stunning in an Alberta Ferretti sheer black embellished gown. Also spotted at the film festival opening ceremony were Mariacarla Boscono, Zhang Ziyi, Catherine O’Hara, Tim Burton, and Michael Keaton among others.
During the film’s promotions, Jenna’s style journey revolved around some iconic looks, one of which was the custom Paul Smith pantsuit resembling the character Beetljuice’s suit played by Michael Keaton in the original film.
Behind Jenna’s iconic ‘method dressing’ is her stylist, Enrique Melendez, who not only took inspiration from the original film’s characters but also celebrated Jenna’s impeccable style through the contemporary looks.
The Venice Film Festival is on till September 7, 2024 and will screen an array of films including Joker: Folie à Deux featuring Joaquin Phoenix and Lady Gaga, Angelina Jolie’s Maria, Daniel Craig’s Queer among others.
