There is a government institution in the country where the annual fee for the MBBS course is just Rs 1,638. Some reports state that the fee at Lady Hardinge Medical College is even lower, at Rs 1,400 per annum. This means that students who gain admission can pursue an MBBS degree at a minimal cost, setting them on the path to becoming doctors. The lowest MBBS course fee in the country is reportedly found at the prestigious All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) in Delhi, where the annual fee is Rs 1,638. Over the entire five-year course, the total cost amounts to just Rs 19,896. Additionally, a student mentioned that the hostel fee is Rs 2,000. AIIMS Delhi offers 132 seats for its MBBS program, with 125 seats reserved for Indian students and 7 for foreign students. Admission to these MBBS seats requires candidates to take the NEET UG entrance exam. Based on their scores, students must then register for counselling, ensuring that AIIMS Delhi is listed as their top preference.
AIIMS Delhi offers a five-and-a-half-year MBBS programme, which includes a one-year compulsory internship. Admission to the MBBS program at AIIMS Delhi is conducted entirely online and is based solely on entrance exam performance. Final selection for the program requires a valid NEET UG score, followed by seat allotment conducted by the Medical Counseling Committee (MCC). Candidates who have completed their Class 12 with Physics, Chemistry, and Biology are eligible to apply for AIIMS Delhi MBBS, provided they achieve a competitive score in the NEET UG exam.
Due to the high-quality education offered at a low cost, admission to the MBBS course at AIIMS Delhi is highly competitive. The intense competition is evident from the fact that this year, 68 out of the top 100 candidates in the NEET UG exam have secured admission to AIIMS Delhi. Among them, candidates ranked from one to 37 had chosen AIIMS Delhi as their first preference.
