The Bihar Public Service Commission (BPSC) has delayed the announcement of the TRE 3 exam results, citing complications related to caste classification. The hold-up stems from a recent Supreme Court ruling that reclassified the Tanti-Tatwa caste, impacting the eligibility of numerous candidates.
On August 12, the Bihar government issued a gazette following a Supreme Court order that included the Tanti-Tatwa caste in the “Extremely Backward Classes” category, rather than the Scheduled Caste (SC) category as previously listed. This change affects applicants who had originally applied under the SC quota but are now required to reapply under the EBC category.
As a result, the BPSC has instructed Tanti-Tatwa candidates to correct their online applications to reflect the new classification. The adjustment process is anticipated to delay the result announcement by up to a month, adding to the growing anxiety among students awaiting their exam outcomes.
Background on the Tanti-Tatwa Caste Issue
The Tanti-Tatwa caste was granted Scheduled Caste (SC) status by the Bihar government on July 2, 2015, allowing members to benefit from SC category reservations in government jobs. This decision was challenged in court by the Dr Bhim Rao Ambedkar Vichar Manch, Patna. Although the High Court upheld the state’s decision, an appeal was filed with the Supreme Court.
After extensive hearings, the Supreme Court issued a ruling on July 15, 2024, excluding the Tanti-Tatwa caste from the SC category. This ruling affects new appointments but does not alter any past recruitments or reservations already granted. The Supreme Court’s decision follows a similar ruling concerning the Lohar caste, which was also removed from the SC list.
Instructions for Correcting TRE 3.0 Application Forms
The Bihar Public Service Commission (BPSC) has issued new guidelines for Tanti-Tatwa caste candidates to correct their TRE 3.0 exam application forms. According to the BPSC’s latest communication, candidates must log in to their existing online application using their current username and password.
Once logged in, candidates need to update their reservation category from SC to EBC and upload an exemption certificate. The correction process must be completed between September 2 and September 23.
Failure to make these changes and submit the required documents within the specified timeframe will result in the loss of reservation benefits, and BPSC’s decision on the candidature will be final.
The Bihar Public Service Commission (BPSC) had earlier planned to release the TRE 3 exam results by the end of this month. It has halted the result preparation until Tanti-Tatwa candidates complete necessary corrections to their applications by September 23. The revised result release date will be determined after this period.
This delay is expected to affect the announcement of results for primary to higher secondary exams, as well as for headmaster and head teacher positions. Additionally, the release of the TRE 4 advertisement may also be postponed.
