Tilak Varma celebrated his half-century in an IPL 2024 match against Delhi Capitals with a special gesture towards Rohit Sharma's daughter.

Mumbai Indians batter Tilak Varma replicated Rohit Sharma’s daughter Samaira’s celebration after scoring a half-century against the Delhi Capitals in an IPL 2024 match on Sunday.

Playing at the Arun Jaitley Stadium, Tilak put up a terrific show by smashing a 32-ball 63 during the run chase. His innings included four fours and as many sixes. The batter crossed the 50-run mark in the 16th over, facing a delivery bowled by Lizaad Williams.

Tilak celebrated his half-century with a special thumbs-up celebration, copying Samaira.

A video of the duo has now surfaced on Instagram in which Varma can be seen holding the little one in his arms as they both perform the same celebration together.

Tilak has been one of MI’s dependable batters this season. The left-hander hails from the city of Hyderabad and was acquired by the franchise in 2022 for an amount of Rs 1.7 crores. He made an instant impact with the franchise scoring 397 runs in debut season.

In less than three seasons, he has already amassed 1076 runs in 34 matches. He boasts a strike rate of 148.62 and an average of 41.38.

As for Sunday’s game, MI put up a close fight against the DC but were unable to cross the finish line. The match began with the Hardik Pandya-led side choosing to bowl first. The opening duo of Jake Fraser-McGurk and Abhishek Porel gave DC a perfect start, putting up a partnership of 114 runs.

Fraser-McGurk was impressive as he smashed a lightning-fast 84 runs in a mere 27 balls. His innings included 11 fours and six sixes which spearheaded the hosts to a total of 257.

None of Mumbai Indians’ bowlers had an answer for DC’s offence on their home turf. Luke Wood, Jasprit Bumrah, Piyush Chawla and Mohammad Nabi combined for four wickets.

DC then started their defense with some early blows. They were able to curb the five-time winners’ top order, picking up the wickets of Rohit, Ishan Kishan and Suryakumar Yadav inside the Powerplay.

That was when Tilak produced a stellar show to keep his team in contention for a victory.

Pandya played a good hand too, hitting 46 runs.

However, the visitors fell 10 runs short of reaching the total. Delhi Capitals bowlers Mukesh Kumar and Rasikh Salam combined for six wickets to seal a fine win for the hosts.
