Earlier this year, the Royal Challengers Bangalore came tantalisingly close to winning their first IPL title, but fell short against Rajasthan Royals in the Eliminator.

As Ganesh Chaturthi nears its conclusion on September 17, devotees are making their final offerings to Lord Ganesha before the idol’s immersion. One of those is a devoted Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) fan with a unique wish. Eager to see his beloved team clinch the IPL title next season, this fan sought divine intervention from Ganpati Bappa.

In a heartwarming gesture, the fan penned his wish, “Ee Sala Cup Namde (This year the cup is ours) RCB 2025,” and placed the piece of paper before the Ganesh idol, hoping the Lord would grant his wish.

The fan also recorded a video and later shared it on X (formerly Twitter). Check out the video here:

Earlier this year, the Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) came tantalisingly close to winning their first IPL title. They clinched a playoff spot by beating the Chennai Super Kings in their final group match. Led by Faf du Plessis, the team made a strong push but fell short against the Rajasthan Royals in the Eliminator, ending their campaign.

Despite the setback, RCB fans remain unwaveringly loyal to Virat Kohli and the team. Kohli, a cornerstone of the franchise since its debut in 2008, captained the team from 2013 to 2021. Under his leadership, RCB made it to the IPL playoffs four times, but the title has always remained elusive. The fans’ faith in Kohli and the team’s potential keeps the hope alive every season.

In their 17-year history, the Royal Challengers Bangalore have reached the knockout stages nine times and made it to the final three times, only to finish as runners-up on each occasion. Their most recent final appearance was in 2016 when the Sunrisers Hyderabad edged them out for the title.

As they prepare for the upcoming season, RCB is set to shake up their roster. With the mega auction scheduled between December this year and February 2025, the team is expected to bring in new talent.

Speculation is swirling that KL Rahul, a former RCB player, might be making a return. Rahul kicked off his IPL career with RCB in 2013, had stints with SRH, and rejoined Bengaluru in 2016. He later moved to the Punjab Kings and currently leads the Lucknow Super Giants.
