WATCH: DC Head Coach Ricky Ponting Arrives in Vizag to Join Delhi Capitals' Pre-Season

Ricky Ponting recently touched down on Indian soil for his coaching assignment in the upcoming season of the Indian Premier League (IPL). Ponting has been in the dugout of Delhi Capitals since 2018 when the franchise appointed him as the head coach. The former Australia skipper had previously served the same role for Mumbai Indians from 2014 to 2016. Under his guidance, the Mumbai-based franchise lifted the IPL trophy in the 2015 season. Ponting, however, has yet to achieve success as part of Delhi Capitals. They had managed five wins in 14 appearances during the league stage and finished in the second-last position in the standings.

David Warner replaced Rishabh Pant as the captain of the Delhi-based franchise last season. The Indian wicketkeeper-batter missed the entire campaign as he was recovering from injuries that he sustained in a car crash in December 2022. With Pant set to make a comeback this time, Ricky Ponting will want his team to make a strong statement in 2024. Delhi Capitals recently announced the arrival of Ponting sharing a post on social media platform X (formerly Twitter).

Delhi Capitals uploaded a video where Ricky Ponting can be seen stepping out of a car. The World Cup-winning captain received a grand welcome upon reaching the entrance. On his way to the room, Ponting crossed paths with a hotel staff, who shook hands with the Delhi Capitals head coach in a respectful gesture.

One person also recognised himself as a “big fan” of Ricky Ponting’s “dressing room speeches.” Before the video ended, Ponting called out the Delhi Capitals fans, saying, “I’m here. I’m ready to roar.” The caption of the post read, “Everyone is a fan of Ricky's Dressing Room speeches. Welcome, Boss.”

Delhi Capitals have set up their pre-season camp in Vizag where they will play their first two home matches of the season. Several Indian players, including Rishabh Pant, have already begun their preparation for the IPL 2024 edition. The franchise shared another video on X, documenting the arrival of the players at the team hotel.

Rishabh Pant, who has been out of professional cricket for nearly 14 months, is quite thrilled to rejoin his Delhi Capitals family ahead of the new season. “To be able to play cricket again after everything I’ve been through is nothing short of a miracle. I’m grateful to all my well-wishers and fans, and most importantly, the BCCI and staff at NCA. All their love and support continue to give me immense strength,” Pant said in a media release shared by Delhi Capitals.

Delhi Capitals will begin their campaign in the 2024 IPL with an away game against Punjab Kings scheduled to be played on March 23.
