Chennai Super Kings produced a super moment indeed as the likes of Ajinkya Rahane and newcomer Rachin Ravindra partnered up to pull off a sensational catch to dismiss RCB veteran Virat Kohli, in their opening contest of the IPL 2024, taking place in Chepauk, Chennai.
Kohli started off his innings with some caution, finding it fairly difficult to get off the mark instantly, as strike partner Faf du Plessis took to the CSK bowlers with venom in his bat.
But, a sudden collapse saw RCB lose three wickets in quick succession, upon which the onus fell on the veteran Kohli to steer them away from trouble and bring stability to the innings.

That is exactly what ensued as Kohli partnered up with newcomer Cameron Green to bring about the big shots.
But then, a menacing Mustafizur Rahman, who already had scalped du Plessis and Rajat Patidar, bowled one back of the length, angling away from the veteran batter.

Kohli looked to play the pull-shot on the short delivery as he shuffled to his left. But he was unable to clear the boundary. Rahane who was the man at the mid-wicket boundary ropes, ran towards the square-leg region, took the catch but was sliding towards the boundary.
Rahane, who upon realizing that he was going to slide into the boundary line if he held onto the ball, mid-slide threw the ball safely to an approacing Rachin Ravindra before crashing onto the ropes, thereby saving the boundary and the wicket, which left Kohli in dismay.
Kohli’s mastery of the shorter format of the game was cemented even more, today as the talisman batter crossed a milestone of 12,000 runs in T20s with his sixth run, off a Jadeja delivery.
In yet another addition to Kohli’s accolades, with his 15th run of his innings, Kohli also became just the second player to score 100 runs against the Chennai Super Kings, following Shikhar Dhawan.
But Mustafizur’s blazing spell continued to spell more trouble, as Cameron Green looked to take a length delivery on the backfoot but misjudged the ball angling back in and it went back to crash onto the stumps, just to be dismissed in the second delivery that followed Kohli’s departure, leaving RCB at a precarious 78/5.
