WATCH: Afghanistan's Rahmanullah Gurbaz, Azmatullah Omarzai Involved in ‘Comedy Of Errors' Mix-Up Against Bangladesh
Gurbaz had a horrible mix-up with Omarzai in the 16th over as drama unfolded between the wickets on the fourth ball of the over after Gurbaz played a cut towards the backward point region and attempted to take a run.

Afghanistan claimed a thrilling win against Bangladesh to qualify for the T20 World Cup semi-final for the very first time. Chasing a revised target of 114, Bangladesh fell short by eight runs (DLS method). Batting first, Afghanistan could manage to reach 115. Afghanistan’s opening batter Rahmanullah Gurbaz scored 43 runs to give his team a good start. In the 16th over, Gurbaz had a horrible mix-up with Azmatullah Omarzai. The drama unfolded on the fourth ball of the over after Gurbaz played a cut towards the backward point region and attempted to take a run.

Gurbaz soon realised that there was no chance of completing the run. Azmatullah Omarzai was halfway down the pitch and both the batters were at the striker’s end. Rishad Hossain threw the ball towards the batting end but missed the target. Now, both the Afghan batters started running once again, this time, towards the non-striker’s end. It was Gurbaz who finally completed the run and had the narrowest of escapes.

The video of the Afghanistan batters’ misunderstanding was shared by the official Instagram handle of the International Cricket Council (ICC). “A comedy of errors in the middle,” read the post.

Gurbaz also had a reprieve on the very first ball of the innings. The wicketkeeper had to come up with a desperate dive to save his wicket. Gurbaz’s last-ditch effort did pay off.

Gurbaz made full use of the chances and went on to produce a vital knock of 43 off 55 balls. His crucial innings comprised three boundaries and one six. Gurbaz also emerged as Afghanistan’s highest scorer of the game. Riding on Gurbaz’s solid batting, Afghanistan managed to a respectable total of 115.

Afghanistan skipper Rashid Khan also came up with a terrific cameo of unbeaten 19 off 10 balls.

Later, Rashid and Naveen-ul-Haq picked up four wickets each to earn a memorable win for Afghanistan. They will next take on South Africa in the first semi-final of the T20 World Cup on Thursday, June 27.
