The former international cricketer, Mohammad Asif has made a bold prediction for the Pakistan Cricket Team ahead of the next T20 World Cup and it does not bode well for the 2009 World Champions.
Pakistan has been in the spotlight for all the wrong reasons. From constant changes in the Pakistan Cricket Board, to locker-room drama between the players, the current scenario in Pakistan Cricket seems to be far from the quality people have been used to seeing.

Asif was present as a guest at the YouTube podcast called ‘The Nakash Khan Show’, where he gave a massive prediction that Pakistani fans might not be too excited about it.
He believes that the USA cricket team will go on and beat Pakistan in the next edition of the T20 World Cup, repeating the feat that was achieved in the 2024 edition.
“We lost to the USA, who are playing in the T20 World Cup for the first time. They didn’t even qualify, they played because they were the hosts. The way the situation is going at this moment, the USA will beat Pakistan in the next World Cup, in 2026. I’ll guarantee you that,” Asif predicted.
USA made their debut in the T20 World Cup 2024 as a result of being co-hosts along with the West Indies. During their campaign, the side had a stellar run through to the Super-Eight stages.
In their second game of the tournament, going up against Pakistan at the Grand Prairie Stadium in Texas, the USA managed to script a massive upset beating Pakistan by 5 runs in the Super Over. The American minnows took the game against a high-profile Pakistan team that looked out of sorts throughout the tournament and the loss against the USA proved to be the decisive blow that knocked out the 2009 champions at the group stages.

Asif reflecting on the current state of Pakistan cricket believes that the side would have to bring in changes right from the top, but sees the side making the same mistake time and again, which reinforces his bold prediction.
“Before the 2026 World Cup, we have to change the captain, coach and the players. There needs to be planning for the two years that this is the team, this is the 20 players we want to work with. But we are repeating the same things, which is why I am telling you this,” Asif highlighted.
“When the likes of India, and South Africa are moving forward in the next two years, we are still in the same spot,” he added.
Pakistan cricket suffered yet another disappointing defeat. This time against Bangladesh in their backyard in Rawalpindi which puts the spotlight on the side once again. But it remains to be seen whether the PCB would take massive risks in order to revive the cricketing fever within the nation.
