The Women’s Premier League T20 is set to begin next week on February 23, Friday. The tournament’s opening match has been set between last year’s finalists Mumbai Indians and the Delhi Capitals. The opening match will also be played in Bengaluru at the renowned M Chinnaswamy Stadium.
The 2024 edition of the Women’s Premier League will have five franchises compete for T20 glory. The season promises to be a spectacle with a new rush of talent in the established and promising squads. Some good examples include the likes of Kashvee Gautam and Vrinda Dinesh, both of whom were part of the mini-auction for the tournament. The Mumbai Indians will be led by none other than India’s Harmanpreet Kaur. She had previously guided her side to a tournament triumph in its inaugural edition back in 2023. They had beaten the Delhi Capitals in the final of that tournament. The score charts in the previous edition were dominated most by both Delhi and Mumbai. Delhi Capitals’ batter Meg Lanning scored the most runs in the tournament last year while Hayley Matthews from Mumbai picked up the most scalps in the WPLT20 2024.
The full schedule for the tournament was announced last year by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI). They also stated that Bengaluru and Delhi will be the two active host cities for the second season of the franchise tournament. The tournament will feature a total of 22 matches and is set to span from February 23 to March 17, 2024. The Arun Jaitley Stadium will be hosting the Eliminator and the final on March 15 and 17, respectively. BCCI also announced that all the WPLT20 matches will be starting at 7:30 PM IST this time.
