Royal Challengers Bengaluru registered a 35-run win over Sunrisers Hyderabad at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium on Thursday to pick up just their second win of the 2024 Indian Premier League campaign.
RCB totalled 206 runs in 20 overs as Virat Kohli and Rajat Patidar notched up knocks of 51 and 50 runs in the first innings before limiting SRH to 171 runs for the loss of eight wickets in the chase as three RCB bowlers picked up a brace of wickets.
SRH skipper Pat Cummins opined that they went for a bit too much with the ball in the first innings and also lost wickets in regular intervals during the chase.
“It was not an ideal night. We went a few runs over par with the ball and unfortunately lost a few wickets throughout our innings,” he said speaking at the post-match presentation.
“We were gonna bat first, it seems to be working for us. Before the last few wins, we were thinking that we were a bowl-first team. But, it did not go our way,” he added.
When quizzed about what his message to pep his side up after the defeat would be, the Australian said, “I speak after wins, Daniel Vettori speaks after losses.”
He touched upon the nature of T20 cricket and opined that one can’t expect to win every game.
“The boys have been going really well, it’s T20 cricket, you are not going to win every game. Don’t dwell on this too much,” he added.
Despite losing wickets at regular intervals, SRH continued to demonstrate the attacking play they have approached the season with as the skipper led with fiery innings of 31 off just 15 deliveries.
He expressed that even during their other losses they managed to put up good totals and felt that it was the way forward for the side from Hyderabad.
“I think it’s our strong suit. It’s not going to work every game. In one or two games where it hasn’t gone our way at the start, we still managed to get a good total. Still think this is the way forward for our boys,” he signed off.
