'Pakistan Should Permanently Retire': Cricket World Explodes After USA Produce 'Biggest Upset' in Sport's History
USA have produced the first upset of the 2024 T20 World Cup by defeating former champions Pakistan in Super Over.

In what will go down as one of the biggest upsets in cricket history, USA defeated Pakistan in a group fixture of the ongoing ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2024 on Thursday. USA, making their world cup debut, got the better of former champions Pakistan in the Super Over with Saurabh Netravalkar producing a stellar show with the ball.

Batting first, Pakistan recovered from a top-order collapse to post a decent 159/7 with skipper Babar Azam hitting 44 off 43 while Shabad Khan belting 25-ball 40.

USA’s chase was powered by captain Monak Patel’s 38-ball 50 before Aaron Jones (36*)  and Nitish Kumar (14*) helped them finish on level terms at 159/3 forcing a Super Over.

USA set Pakistan 19 runs to win and Netravalkar kept the 2009 winners to 13/1 to create history.

“It is a big achievement, beating Pakistan and that too playing (Pakistan) for the first time,” said USA captain Monak after the match. “It was a complete team effort. We won the toss and we made sure we utilised the conditions well, we did really well to keep them under 160. I am happy with my contribution and more happy that we won the game.”

USA have now won both their group matches to collect four points and currently sit at the top of the table ahead of India, Pakistan, Canada and Ireland. They will next face India on Wednesday.
