When will Glenn Maxwell show his class in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024? This is one of the major questions that’s been bothering the fans who are already shattered by the Royal Challengers Bengaluru’s (RCB) abysmal run this season. 1 win in 6 games and 5 losses have put them in the 10th spot on the points table and as they reach the halfway mark in the tournament on Monday, against Sunrisers Hyderabad, every game from here on is a do-or-die for them.
On the other hand, Maxwell’s poor form has only added to the team’s woes. He has been part of the team in all previous encounters but yet to showcase what he’s known for. The 35-year-old has managed just 32 runs in 6 games and secured three ducks.
Maxwell not playing to his potential has done serious damage to RCB’s campaign this year. Speaking about his problem so far in the season, batting legend Sunil Gavaskar bluntly said that the Aussie hard-hitter is not being able to play fast bowling.

Speaking on Star Sports, Gavaskar said Maxwell would only score against the balls below his waist height.
“He has been unable to play fast bowling, period. Balls bouncing to his chest or shoulder height are troubling him. He can whack every ball below his waist height but not the ones above that.
In India, the weather till April 20 favours fast bowling on Indian tracks. And when the pacers will reap success, Maxwell will surely find himself at the receiving end. It is just as we say in Hindi, “Naam Bade Par Darshan Chhote,” Gavaskar said.
“And it’s not just Maxwell. Several big-ticket players are finding it difficult to read bowling. So when he gets out in the match, the balls that remain low, he will score against them,” he added.
Any injury concern?
Maxwell had suffered a hit on his thumb while fielding in RCB’s previous match against Mumbai Indians, but RCB Director of Cricket Mo Bobat said the Australian all-rounder has recovered well.
“Maxi has had a couple of scans, and he’s okay at the minute. So, there’s no injury concerns. He’s going to practice today and get more of a feel,” said Bobat in the pre-match press meet.
“He’s disappointed. He has high standards and has a very, very impressive 12 to 24 months. He’s in our plans and is an important part of our batting lineup. So, up until now, we’re trying to support him as best as we can and help him find his best form,” he said.
