KKR's Andre Russell Pleads "Missing Puzzle" Sunil Narine to Come Out of Retirement for West Indies Ahead of 2024 T20 World Cup
Narine quit international cricket in 2023 and played his last T20I for West Indies way back in 2019, and earlier this year made it clear that he has "made peace with that decision"

Narine has quickly became a mainstay in not just the bowling ranks, but also the top-order of the KKR batting lineup. With the explosive season the West Indian has been having, KKR teammate Andre Russell asks the big question: will Narine take part in the upcoming 2024 T20 World Cup?

Narine has proven his worth to be more than just a pinch-hitter, as the left-handed batter has notched up 482 runs so far this season, giving Kolkata Knight Riders flying starts in the power-play, as he wreaked havoc with compatriot Phil Salt.

But, he also has not lost his magical touch with the ball, taking 16 wickets at a neat economy rate of 6.90 as he truly has developed into a big-name all-rounder for the Kolkata franchise.

“I’m so happy for Sunil to be honest. I think getting close to 500 runs is no joke, being a premier bowler that is going to look to bowl four overs and has 16 wickets under his belt in this season as well, that just goes to show the true all-roundership in him,” Russell said on Star Sports Cricket Live.

KKR made light work of their opponents Sunrisers Hyderabad in the first Qualifier of the IPL 2024, dismissing the notoriously swashbuckling batters of SRH for a meagre 159 and making light work of the chase, to clinch a commanding 8-wicket win with 38 balls left in their innings to book their place in the IPL 2024 final.

There exists one point of worry for the West Indies ahead of the World Cup though with respect to Narine, being that of the 35-year-old’s decision to retire from international cricket.

Narine has quit international cricket in 2023 and played his last T20I for West Indies way back in 2019, and earlier this year made it clear that he has “made peace with that decision” and the “door is now closed” for coming out of the international retirement for the T20 World Cup next month in the Caribbean and the USA.

But, Andre Russell is reluctant to let out of the superstar’s arsenal and stays adamant about ensuring that the West Indies side somehow sign up the veteran for the upcoming 2024 T20 World Cup.

“Yeah, I definitely think so, I was trying to get in his head before the squad announced for like two weeks straight. (Sherfane) Rutherford and I tried to talk to him and say just for this World Cup, then you can retire do whatever you want to do.

“Though he’s the missing puzzle, I think he made his decision and I respect his decision as well, as a big man and as a player that do well. I think if he could change that decision the whole West Indies would be happy,” the Jamaican big-hitter said.
