'Guati is the Laziest Athlete By Far': Dinesh Karthik's Hilarious Anecdote Leaves Gautam Gambhir in Splits - WATCH
Dinesh Karthik termed Gautam Gambhir ‘the laziest athlete ever’ as he the former recalled an incident from their playing days.

Former India opener Gautam Gambhir is widely known for his serious demeanour. He, as a mentor, recently inspired the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) to their first IPL title since 2014 and third overall. And if news reports are to be believed, he will soon replace Rahul Dravid as Team India’s next head coach.

Gambhir’s seriousness and work ethic are widely praised in the Indian cricket fraternity while the fans often wonder why he seldom smiles. But in a viral video, the former cricketer could be seen laughing out loud after listening to an anecdote from one of his former teammates, Dinesh Karthik.

The video seems to be a chunk from a group chat, moderated by renowned presenter Jatin Saproo and attended by the winners of the 2007 T20 World Cup. The likes of Gambhir, Irfan Pathan, Ajit Agarkar, Harbhajan Singh, RP Singh and Karthik could be seen sharing a laugh over the story narrated by the former wicketkeeper-batter.

Karthik termed Gambhir ‘the laziest athlete ever’ as he the former recalled an incident from their playing days.

“I didn’t want to embarrass Gauti [Gautam Gambhir] in the public but I’ll tell you this one thing. Of all the people I’ve seen in my life, he is by far the laziest athlete. Actually, he didn’t change the song because he didn’t want to put that fast-forward button.

“I was next to Gauti’s room. He was just lying down on the bed. We were getting a single room…

Gambhir interrupted Karthik, saying they didn’t get single rooms back then but the former keeper-batter continued, saying,

“The point is, I was walking past his room. He said, ‘DK, come here.’ Okay, I went into his room, he was lying on his bed and he’s like, ‘There’s a remote there, please change the channel.”

“He can be lazy but that’s a bit too much. He could walk just two steps. As I was walking outside, he called me from there and made me take the remote. He wasn’t even willing to change the TV channel,” he added.

Gambhir for India’s head coach?

Gautam Gambhir could have been a lazy athlete but as a mentor, he has done wonders in the past three editions of the IPL. He was with the Lucknow Super Giants in the last couple of years and guided to them consecutive playoffs. This year, he joined his old team, KKR and made them champions.

He recently opened up on taking up the job of India head coach.

“I would love to coach the Indian team. There is no bigger honour than coaching your national team. You are representing 140 crore Indians and those across the globe as well,” he said at an event in Dubai.

“It is 140 crore Indians who will help India win the World Cup. If everyone starts praying for us and we start playing and representing them, India will win the World Cup. The most important thing is to be fearless,” he added.
