The Gautam Gambhir era has begun and his first assignment as Head Coach of the Indian team is the white-ball tour of Sri Lanka. Before their departure, Gambhir along with the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) Chief Selector, Ajit Agarkar will address the media.
A lot of questions will be asked regarding the selections that have been made for the upcoming tour and Gambhir and Agarkar will have answers for the calls that they have made. The Indian team will head to Sri Lanka from Mumbai on Monday following the press conference.
The selectors along with Gambhir made the bold call of appointing Suryakumar Yadav as the skipper of the T20I side along with Shubman Gill as the vice-captain for both the white-ball formats. Rohit Sharma remains the captain for the 50-over and Test side with Bumrah as his deputy in the longest format.
Many reports have circulated regarding various names like Abhishek Nayar, and Morne Morkel among many others for the batting and bowling coach roles but the BCCI has yet to make an official announcement.
Among the many names that missed the cut include the likes of Sanju Samson, Ravindra Jadeja, Abhishek Sharma and more. Gambhir and Agarkar will certainly be asked questions regarding their exclusions as well. The two will also be asked regarding handing out maiden call-ups for the likes of Harshit Rana and Riyan Parag on the ODI side.
