As Team India emerged as world champions, Hugh Jackman described Rohit Sharma as his favourite Indian cricketer.

Ending the country’s long wait, captain Rohit Sharma led Team India to the prestigious title of T20 World Cup 2024, sending a wave of celebrations among fans. Sharma’s individual performance, contribution to the team’s game and support for the players are receiving much-deserved appreciation and recognition from all walks of life. While the sound of celebration and the enthusiasm continue to echo, the India skipper has found a fan in Hollywood. Hugh Jackman, who is gearing up for the release of his highly-anticipated film Deadpool & Wolverine, has revealed his deep admiration for Rohit Sharma.

With co-star Ryan Reynolds, Hugh, during a conversation with Marvel India, expressed his enthusiasm for cricket, further naming his favourite cricketer from the Indian team. Mentioning that he is obsessed with cricket, the Australian actor, without missing a beat, said, “Right now, Rohit. Come on. You just took the cup home. I’m glad,” leaving Reynolds amazed.

He also described that “Rohit was a beast” in the T20 tournament, suggesting that he kept track of India’s matches. “THE X-Man talking about THE Hitman,” Marvel India wrote in the caption.

The video instantly took over the internet, sending all Marvel and cricket fans in India into a frenzy. For those unaware, Hugh Jackman and Ryan Reynolds are currently busy with the promotion of their upcoming MCU film, Deadpool & Wolverine. The film marks the return of Hugh’s Wolverine after the character’s death in Logan. The film will be released on July 26.

India’s T20 World Cup Win

After weeks of power-packed action and on-field drama, the Men in Blue emerged as the world champions by winning the ICC T20 World Cup 2024. In a thrilling match against first-time finalists South Africa, India snatched the victory by seven runs.

Following the match, Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli and Ravindra Jadeja announced their retirement from T20Is, leaving fans heartbroken. “This picture epitomises how I’m feeling right now. So many words but can’t find the right ones to express what yesterday meant to me but I will, and I will share them, but right now I’m basking in a dream come true for a billion of us,” Rohit Sharma wrote on Instagram.

While fans stormed social media platforms with celebratory messages and wishes for their team, the players recently received a grand welcome as they took part in the Victory Parade in Mumbai.
