Congratulations Shamit! Embarrassment For CAB As Wrong Spelling Takes Spotlight In Shami's Felicitation
Shami was felicitated by the Cricket Association of Bengal (CAB) on Saturday for his super show in the ODI World Cup 2023 for India, where he finished as the leading wicket-taker.

It was a moment of embarrassment for the Cricket Association of Bengal (CAB) on Saturday (September 14) when a wrong spelling of star Indian cricketer Mohammed Shami’s name was flashed on a giant screen during an award ceremony organised by the board. The 34-year-old Indian pacer, who has been out of action since November 2023, received a special award during CAB’s annual awards ceremony organised on Saturday, but when he arrived on stage to collect the award, what caught everyone’s attention was ‘Shamit’.

Instead of Shami, due to a typo, Shamit displayed on screen, which left everyone in a state of shock. Several pictures of Shamit appearing in bold letters in the background when Shami was receiving the award are going viral on the internet.

Shami was awarded by the CAB for his superb performance in the ODI World Cup 2023. The right-arm pacer finished as the leading wicket-taker in the tournament. He played in seven matches for the Rohit Sharma-led side and picked up 24 wickets.

‘Comeback soon’

Shami, who hasn’t played any competitive match since the ODI World Cup 2023 final due to an ankle injury, provided a big update about his comeback and said that he is trying to be in top shape before returning to the field.

“Koshish jaldi hi kar raha hoon kyun ke main janta hoon kaafi time ho gaya hai team se bahar rehte hue (I am working hard to make a comeback soon because I know I have been out of action for quite some time). However, I want to ensure there is no discomfort when I return. I’ve got to work on my fitness so that there is no discomfort,” Shami was quoted as saying by BCCI.

“The stronger I return, the better it is for me. I don’t want to rush and risk getting injured again, be it against Bangladesh, New Zealand, or the Australia series. I’ve already started bowling, but I won’t take any chances until I am 100% fit.”

While speaking to reporters, the 64-Test veteran hinted at the possibility of playing domestic matches before making his international return.

“If I need to play domestic cricket to test my fitness, I will. What matters most is that I am fully ready for whatever comes next, regardless of the opposition or format,” Shami added.
