After suffering a shocking defeat by 58 runs against New Zealand on Friday (October 4) in their first match of the ongoing ICC Women’s T20 World Cup 2024 in the United Arab Emirates, the Indian women’s cricket team will face archrivals Pakistan in the second match on Sunday (October 6). The match between India and Pakistan is scheduled to take place at Dubai International Stadium. India, which sits in the last position in Group A, would like to beat Pakistan and keep alive its chances of qualifying for the semi-finals.
India enjoys a dominant record against Pakistan in international cricket, but despite that, it won’t be an easy task for Women in Blue to get the better of Women in Green on Sunday. Pakistan is coming into the match after defeating Asia Cup winners Sri Lanka by 31 runs in their first match, which was played in Sharjah on Thursday (October 3).
Ahead of the high-profile match between India and Pakistan on Sunday, here’s a look at how these two sides have performed against each other in seven matches played so far in the Women’s T20 World Cup:
2009: India’s first-ever match in the Women’s T20 World Cup against Pakistan was played in Taunton on June 13, 2009, and in that game, India defeated Pakistan by five wickets. Priyanka Roy’s 5 for 16 in 3.5 overs helped Jhulan Goswami-led Team India dismiss Pakistan for 75 runs in 19.5 overs, and then riding on Anjum Chopra’s unbeaten 37 from 52 balls, India chased down the 76-run target in 17.4 overs to win the match by five wickets.

Thanks to a super bowling show by Soniya Dabir (3/14), Sravanthi Naidu (2/12), and Poonam Yadav (2/25), India successfully managed to defend the total of 106 runs.
2016: Pakistan secured its second and last win over India in the Women’s T20 World Cup during the 2016 edition of the tournament, which was played entirely in India.
