South actor Sivakumar has courted criticism for throwing a shawl gifted by an elderly person at a book launch event in Chennai. The behind-the-scenes videos, uploaded by News 18 Tamil, show Sivakumar leaving the event when an old man greets him. He then gifted him a shawl but Sivakumar gave that man an angry look and threw the shawl after snatching it from him. Everyone including the man who presented him with the gift started laughing at this gesture by Sivakumar. Someone from the crowd handed the shawl to the fan for giving it again to Sivakumar. The Sindhu Bhairavi actor, however, refused to take the shawl and walked out of the hall.
This act by Sivakumar has received immense backlash. One of the users commented that if the late actor Vijayakanth had been there instead of Sivakumar, he would have gladly accepted it. Another user even commented that Sivakumar should stop attending public events anymore. One of the users, however, had a different point of view about the video. He commented that the name of the person who tried to gift the shawl to Sivakumar is Sidumoonji Kumar and is not a good person. Nothing is available regarding Sidumoonji Kumar in the public domain.
For those who don’t know, Sivakumar is the father of two popular actors Suriya and Karthi and a renowned singer Brindha Sivakumar. None of the three have spoken about this incident on social media.
Sivakumar is one of the prominent names in the Tamil film industry. He has won adulation from audiences for his acting credentials in a career spanning close to six decades. He last made a special appearance in the film Kootathil Oruthan written and directed by TJ Gnanavel. Ashok Selvan played the lead role in the film starring Priya Anand, Samuthirakani, Anupama Kumar and others. This film received mixed reviews from the viewers with many calling it a good message-oriented film. They, however, opined that it is a slow-paced film that spoils its entertainment quotient.
Sivakumar has also acted in many Tamil television serials and received accolades for his acting.
