The late 1990s saw a boom in the gift market, and Umesh Singh’s decision proved fruitful for his entrepreneurial journey.

The turning point came when Tara Candles received a unique order for candles from Emirates, a significant client. The candles had to be distinct, posing a challenge for Singh. Despite lacking resources, he seized the opportunity and attempted to outsource the work, but finding suitable partners proved elusive. Faced with this situation, Umesh Singh and Richa took matters into their own hands and fulfilled the order for 40 candles from Emirates. This experience, although challenging, became a pivotal learning moment in their candle business journey.

From this episode, Tara Candles was born, with a newfound focus on crafting aromatic candles. At that time, there were few players in the country producing such candles, providing Tara Candles with a unique advantage. The company swiftly gained momentum and secured its position in the market.

Umesh Singh reflects on the company’s growth, citing a significant milestone during the challenging period of the COVID-19 pandemic. Tara Candles successfully delivered 1.60 lakh candles to Alkem Pharma within 16 days, showcasing the company’s resilience and adaptability. With 90 corporate clients and an additional 5,000 clients, including prestigious hotels like JW Marriott and Taj, Tara Candles generated a revenue of approximately Rs 20 crore in the fiscal year 2021–22.
