New Delhi: The markets were back in action and saw a new rally without any signs of weakness.
The Sensex closed with a hefty gain of 344 points at 12,218. The Nifty has also made triple digit rally moving up 111 points to close at 3635.
The midcap and the smallcap stocks also showed a remarkable bounce back.
The BSE Midcap was up 3.36 per cent at 5,891.12. The BSE Smallcap was up 3.83 per cent at 7,617.20.
The market breadth was extremely positive, about 2075 shares have advanced, 454 shares declined, and 33 shares are unchanged.
The top gainers on the indices were SBI, Tata Steel, VSNL, ONGC, Hero Honda, ITC, Hindalco, ICICI, TCS, Reliance Industries and HLL.
The major losers on the indices were Cipla, Grasim, NTPC, Zee and Dabur India.
Heavy buying was seen in scrips across sectors and all the BSE indices closed green. The BSE metal index is up by more than 5 per cent, followed by scrips frombanking, FMCG and oil & gas sector.
The BSE Metal Index gained 5.19 per cent at 10,398.74. Strong gains were seen in Hind Zinc, JindalStainless, JSW Steel, Tata Steel, Sesa Goa and Nalco.
The BSE Oil & gas Index moved up 4.35 per cent at 5,982.96 amid gains were seen in MRPL, ONGC, Reliance, Chennai Petro, Petronet LNG and GAIL.
Banking stocks like SBI, Canara Bank, PNB, Allahabad Bank, Bank of Baroda, Union Bank and Bank of India witnessed buying interest. The BSE Bankex was up 3.18 per cent at 5,588.03.
The BSE FMCG Indexadvanced 3.54 per cent at 2,275.27. Stocks like P&G, ITC, Shaw Wallace, Britannia, McDowell and Nirma surged.
Consumer durables stocks firmed 3.51 per cent at 3,561.47 as buying interest seen in Whirlpool, Su-Raj Diamonds, Mirc Electronic, Titan Industries and Samtel Color.
Capital goods stocks like Thermax, BEML, Crompton Greave, KEC Infrastructure, Greaves Cotton, Carborundum and SKF India ended in green. The capital goods index was up 3 per cent at 8,766.84.
Buying were also seen in technology and pharma stocks.
The NSE cash turnover was Rs 8518.21 crore and the NSE F&O turnover stood at Rs 31726.19 crore. The BSE cash turnover was Rs 4098.08 crore and the total market turnover stood at Rs 44,342.48 crore.
