Mkts ends flat after choppy session; oil, auto stocks drag
Sensex ended up 12.32 points or 0.06 per cent at 19091.96, and the Nifty closed up 8.85 points.

New Delhi: The markets opened on very strong note on Wednesday in line with its global peers and traded strong and stable during first half but gave up gains on account of profit booking witnessed across the sectors led by the oil andgas, pharma, realty, banking and auto stocks. Sensex and Nifty turned choppy in late trade and slipped in deep red before ending with modest gains.

It was yet another a high volume trading day wherein trade worth over one lakh crore took place. Market breadth remained positive through the day however the gap was narrowed down in later half to 2:1 in favour of advancing stocks. It was once again a good day for the midcaps and small caps that outperformed the frontline counters for most part of the day. Metal, IT and consumer durable index were strong at the time of closing but the realty, auto, pharma and oil and gas counters actual spooked the markets.

Sensex ended up 12.32 points or 0.06 per cent at 19091.96, and the Nifty closed up 8.85 points or 0.15 per cent at 5751.15. On BSE, about 1982 shares advanced, 1072 shares declined, and 43 shares were unchanged. BSE midcap was down 0.15 per cent at 9080.39 and Smallcap was up 0.82 per cent at 11915.36.

BSE auto index was down 0.70 per cent at 5525.64. Amtek Auto, Tube Investment, Maruti Suzuki, Exide Industrie and Tata Motors were top losers.

BSE healthcare index was down 0.33 per cent at 4247.16. Opto Circuits, Dr Reddys Labs, Biocon, Glenmark and Novartis India were top losers.

BSE oil and gas index was down 0.23 per cent at 12280.80. GAIL, IOC, Reliance, Reliance Natural Resources, Petronet LNG were top losers.

BSE realty index was down 0.44 per cent at 11603.26. Phoenix Mills, Anant Raj Ind, Indiabulls Real, Omaxe and Sobha Developer were top losers.

BSE FMCG index was up 0.64 per cent at 2224.19. Tata Tea, United Spirits, ITC, HUL and Colgate were among top gainers in this space.

BSE IT indexx was up 0.44 per cent at 4181. Tech Mahindra, Infosys, TCS, Mphasis and HCL Tech were top gainers in the IT sector.

BSE metal index was up 0.69 per cent at 18202.10. Shree Precoated, NALCO, Jindal Saw, Sesa Goa and JSW Steel were top gainers.

BSE power index was up 0.18 per cent at 4222.80. Reliance Energy, GMR Infra, Suzlon Energy, Tata Power and BHEL were few leading gainers.

BSE bankex was flat at 10763.96 and BSE capital good index also ended flat at 18898.17.

Turnover on Wednesday: Turnover in BSE cash section on Wednesday was at Rs 8309.61 cr, in NSE cash, Rs 18203.41 cr, NSE F&O mkt it was Rs 79137.14 cr and the total turnover was at Rs 105650.16 cr.
