Mkts end weak for 2nd straight session
Mkts opened with modest gains with Nifty trading at 3573 up 4 points and Sensex trading at 12393 up 26 points.

Mumbai: It was second day of weakness for the markets; the dip was in line with Asian peers. The Sensex closed at 12,204.01 down 162.38 points and the Nifty closed at 3515 down 54 points.

The BSE Small Cap Index closed at 6,155.01 down 40 points.

The BSE Midcap Index ended at 5,127.28 down 34 points.

All the BSE sector indices closed in red.

The BSE Metal Index was down 1.4 per cent to close at 8,441.31. Sesa Goa, SAIL, Jindal Saw, Jindal Stainless and Tata Steel ended weak.

The BSE IT Index was down 1.4 per cent at 4,299.39. Hexaware Tech, Mphasis BFL, TCS, Satyam, Wipro closed lower.

The BSE Capital Goods Index was down 1.3 per cent at 8,032.61. BHEL, HEG, Dredging, Bharat Elec, Alstom Projects closed lower.

The BSE Oil and Gas Index lost 1 per cent to close at 5,709.11. ONGC, GAIL, Chennai Petro, Reliance Natural and Reliance were among the top losers.

The BSE Bankex was down 1 per cent at 5,956.82. Allahabad Bank, Bank of India, Andhra Bank, HDFC Bank and Federal Bank moved downwards.

The BSE Health Care Index was down 0.8 per cent at 3,614.77. Dr Reddys Labs, Pfizer, Ranbaxy Labs, Nicholas Pirama and Novartis India closed lower.

The BSE FMCG Index slipped 1.1 per cent at 2,026.18. P&G, ITC, Tata Tea, Shaw Wallace and Nirma closed in red.

The BSE Auto Index closed at 5,379.23 down 0.1 per cent. Hero Honda, Exide Industries, MICO, Maruti Udyog and Escorts were among the losers.

The NSE cash turnover was at Rs 7275.19 crore and the NSE F&O turnover was at Rs 27578.08 crore. The BSE cash turnover was Rs 3570.32 crore. Total market wide turnover was at Rs 38423.59 crore.
