New Delhi: The 70-year old mansion owned by the KK Birla group's New India Sugar is set to become a fashion landmark in Kolkata.
It will house a 5,000 square feet boutique of designer outfits and accessories called 85 Lansdown.
Never before has Kolkata seen a collection like this, which ranges from Raghavendra Rathore to local hero Sabyasachi Mukherjee.
Fashion Designer, Sabyasachi Mukherjee says, "It takes on fashion retail from a completely different format where it's not like a warehouse. Everything is breathable, livable and more holistic."
"They have enough space to move around and to shop in leisure. Because you know today shopping is not about only buying clothes but it's about having an experience of its own," he adds.
But what led the KK Birla Group to foray into High Street Fashion Retailing? New India Sugar has invested Rs 3 crore in this boutique, and it's hopeful that fashion freaks of Kolkata wouldn't disappoint.
Director at 85 Lansdown, Shalini Nopany says, "We believe that the retail market in Kolkata is booming and we have a lot of confidence that the whole psyche of the Kolkata consumers has changed. That's the reason we have brought in so many designers under one roof. I think this is just going to be our first foray in this type of a field for the company."
Both Nopany and her partner Pooja Goenka want to expand, but for the time being they plan to focus on this grand store, which is being formally inaugurated in a couple of days.
