New Delhi: Senior IAS officer G K Pillai has been appointed as the new Commerce Secretary while A K Singh will be the new Textile Secretary.
The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet approved the appointment of Pillai, a 1972 batch IAS officer of the Kerala cadre, as Secretary in Department of Commerce.
Pillai, presently Special Secretary in the Department of Commerce, will replace S N Menon who has achieved superannuation.
Pillai is also India's chief negotiator at the World Trade Organisation.
A K Singh, a 1972 batch IAS officer of Madhya Pradesh cadre and a Special Secretary in Department of Agriculture, would be the new Textile Secretary in place of D P Singh.
The appointment committee also approved the extension of Parthasarathi Shome as Adviser to the Finance Minister, at the level, rank and pay of Secretary.
Shome would continue as adviser for a period of three years beyond September 30, 2006 or until further orders, whichever is earlier, an official release said.
UP cadre IAS officer of the 1972 batch, N A Viswanathan, presently Additional Secretary in Ministry of Home Affairs, has been appointed as Director General of National Productivity Council.
