Filmmaker Sandeep Reddy Vanga’s Animal was released earlier in December last year. The film became a superhit soon after its release and fans appreciated the stellar acting of the film’s cast. Animal was headlined by Ranbir Kapoor, Bobby Deol and featured Rashmika Mandanna and Triptii Dimri in key roles. While there were several scenes in the movie that the fans loved, the climax fist fight between Ranbir and Bobby stole the limelight, since it captured the two stars fighting it out even when their shirts came off. Now, Ranbir Kapoor has shared an interesting anecdote about the same.
While speaking with Netflix India, Ranbir Kapoor narrated that he was intimidated by Bobby Deol’s physique, despite being confident about himself that he’ll look good on the camera. The actor recalled, “Trainers were taking my photos in the gym because I was the first one to remove my shirt in the film. So, when I removed my shirt the whole unit started clapping that ‘hero ne shirt nikali (Hero has removed his shirt).’ Two days later, when Bobby’s shirt was removed, me and my trainer thought we are gone.”
Animal revolves around a man and his toxic relationship with his father. The film shows Vijay (played by Ranbir) as an anti-hero who would go to any lengths to protect his father, including gun down 200 people with machine gun. However, despite his efforts, he struggles to get a seal of approval from his emotionally unavailable father (played by Anil Kapoor). Animal has already crossed the Rs 500 crore mark at the Indian box office.
The film opened to strong reactions. While a section of the audience enjoyed the film, a section of audience also criticised Animal for ‘promoting toxic masculinity.’
Animal is currently streaming on Netflix. Earlier, director Sandeep Reddy Vanga had also caught everyone’s attention by revealing that he was planning to release an extended version of the film for OTT. However, no additional scenes were added to the OTT version.
Sandeep had mentioned he wanted to release the extended version on OTT. In December, Sandeep told Komal Nahta, “I’m currently editing the Netflix version, it will have a few more shots, I should’ve kept the 3-hour 30-minute version but due to pressure I had to cut 8-9 minutes. I’m using that footage for the Netflix version of Animal.”
