In 1986, Kannada cinema saw the birth of two stars. The film Anand which was released that year, saw the debuts of Shiva Rajkumar and Sudha Rani as the leads. The movie went on to become a big success and made stars out of the lead couple. While Shiva Rajkumar, or Shivanna as he is popularly called, was carrying forward his father Dr Rajkumar’s legacy, Sudha Rani had also faced the camera as a child artist before, in commercials and small parts in a few films.
This year marked the completion of 38 years in the industry for both actors. While Shiva Rajkumar is still going headstrong with lead roles in his films, Sudha Rani has made a transition from the silver screen to the small screen. She is presently playing an important role in the TV soap Shrirasthu Shubhamasthu.
Recently, the cast and crew of Shrirasthu Shubhamasthu celebrated the completion of 38 years of the actress’s journey in the world of entertainment. Sudha Rani cut a cake on the shooting set while everyone congratulated her. Her completion of 38 years in the industry may have been eclipsed by that of his co-star Shiva Rajkumar, but Sudha has also had a commendable career in the entertainment industry.
When Sudha Rani was twelve years old, producer Parvathamma Rajkumar saw her in a thread ceremony video and chose her to be the lead in the movie Anand. After they gained popularity together, she continued to work with Shiva Rajkumar in films like Mana Mechchida Hudugi, Samara, Aasegobba Meesegobba, and Midida Shruthi.
In more than eight films, including Panchama Veda, Shrigandha, Aragini, Ganda Mane Makkalu, Varagala Bete, Balondu Chaduranga, Accident and Anuraga Sangama, she was paired with Ramesh Aravind. Her Tamil films, Vasanthakala Paravai and Annakili Sonna Kathai, were commercially successful. She has starred in 10 Tamil films in her career.
