A massive fire broke out at a multi-storied building in the posh Koramangala area of Karnataka’s capital city Bengaluru on Wednesday. The incident was reported on the fourth floor of a cafe located in a commercial building that also houses a gym and a car showroom. Two people, including a man who jumped from the terrace to escape from the fire, have sustained serious injuries.

The fire apparently broke out at around noon in the ‘Mud Pipe Cafe’ where several LPG cylinders had been stored.

Eight fire tenders were rushed to the spot to douse the flames. According to police, the fire has been controlled to a great extent.

“People in the vicinity heard blast-like sounds. We had sent eight fire tenders to the spot and our senior officers were there. The fire has been extinguished. Two people have suffered major injuries,” a fire officer told news agency PTI. As soon as people noticed smoke emanating from the building, they raised an alarm and alerted the police and fire brigade. There were not customers in the cafe at the time.

Several videos of the incidents are doing rounds on social media in which thick smoke can be seen billowing from the building.

In one of the video footage, a man can be seen jumping from the top of the building. Firefighters rushed to the spot.

The police said that a young man trapped in the fire jumped from the fourth floor in panic. Presently, the man is alive and is being treated in the hospital.

Besides alerting the police and the fire brigade, people also rushed to rescue people who might be trapped, sources in the fire brigade said.
