Telangana CM Revanth Reddy initiates major Hyderabad Metro expansion, connecting key areas, prioritizing cost-efficiency, and spurring city-wide development.

Telangana Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy has kickstarted the New Year by directing officials to expedite the expansion of the second and third phases of the Metro Rail.

The ambitious plan aims to connect key localities in the city, with a special focus on benefiting the residents of the Old City.

During a recent review meeting at the Secretariat in Hyderabad, Chief Minister Revanth Reddy instructed NVS Reddy, Managing Director of Hyderabad Metro Rail Limited (HMRL), to collaborate with officials from Hyderabad Metropolitan Development Authority (HMDA) to prepare proposals for the extensive expansion. The proposal includes routes like Miyapur to Patancheruvu, MGBS to Airport via Old City, Nagole to New High Court site, Raidurg to Financial District, and LB Nagar to Hayath Nagar.

The proposed expansion further includes plans for road widening from Darulshifa junction to Shalibanda junction and onto Falaknuma. Chief Minister Reddy believes this will not only enhance connectivity but also foster development in the Old City, aligning it with other areas in the twin cities.

Addressing concerns about heritage and religious structures, Reddy assured his personal intervention to protect the identified 103 structures while urging officials to proceed with the construction works. Notably, the Chief Minister revealed the state government’s decision to reevaluate the previous Airport Metro Project, opting for an alignment that connects MGBS via the Old City.

Reddy urged officials to prioritize transit-oriented development and identify government lands for the same route, emphasizing the need for low construction costs. He directed HMRL to prepare extensions to existing metro rail corridors, ensuring comprehensive development in all directions.

With an eye on the future, Chief Minister Reddy also envisages metro rail connectivity from the airport area to Kandukur on the Srisailam highway, marking a strategic move towards transforming dispersed areas along the Outer Ring Road into growth hubs.

The citizens of Hyderabad can anticipate a revolutionary upgrade to their public transport system, fostering enhanced connectivity and city-wide development.
