Here's a Complete List of All Upcoming Expressways Proposed by Indian Government
As the govt pushes for a more extensive network of road connectivity in India, here's a list of the proposed expressways in India

Minister for Road Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari on Wednesday informed Rajya Sabha that the National Highway Authority of India (NHAI) is building over 1.47 lakh km of roads in the country. “The NHAI is also building 22 green highways and by the end of 2024, we want to expand our road network matching with the US,” Gadkari said.

Hence as the govt pushes for a more extensive network of road connectivity in India, here’s a list of the proposed expressways in India.

1. Amaravati–Anantapur Expressway

The project has been reported to cost Rs 27,635 crore and will run a length of 371km.

2. Amas-Darbhanga Expressway – 230 km

Darbhanga Expressway (NH-119D) by NHAI is an approved 4 lane access-controlled highway in Bihar with a route alignment connecting the outskirts of Aurangabad – Gaya – Patna – Darbhanga in Bihar. It will cost approximately Rs 5,000 crore.

3. Ballia Link Expressway

The Ballia Link Expressway by UPEIDA stretches for 35km in Uttar Pradesh is a proposed 6 lane access-controlled highway connecting Ballia district on the UP-Bihar border with Purvanchal Expressway.

4. Buxar – Bhagalpur Expressway

The Buxar – Bhagalpur by Bihar’s RCD runs for 350km and is a proposed 4 lane access-controlled highway with a route alignment parallel to Ganga River connecting Buxar (UP border) with Bhagalpur (Jharkhand border).

5. Chambal Expressway

The Chambal Expressway by NHAI stretches for 404km and cost Rs 8,200 crore. It is a proposed 6 lane access-controlled highway with a route alignment connecting Etawah (Uttar Pradesh) and Kota (Rajasthan). The project is officially named Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee Chambal Progressway.

6. Chennai Surat Expressway

The Chennai Expressway by NHAI stretches 1271km in length and costs Rs 45,000 crore . It is an approved 6 lane partially access-controlled highway with an alignment passing by Nasik, Ahmednagar, Solapur, Kalaburgi, Kurnool, Kadappa & Tirupati to link Gujarat, Maharashtra, Telangana and Tamil Nadu.

7. Ganga Expressway Phase-2

The 594-km Ganga Expressway project by UPEIDA was an approved 6 lane greenfield access-controlled highway with a route alignment connecting NH-334 in Meerut District with NH-2 at Prayagraj (Allahabad) Bypass in Prayagraj District.

It was first announced in 2008 connecting Noida with Ballia. Since then, the project in Phase 1 has been revised to connect Meerut with Prayagraj. Meanwhile, in Phase 2, the expressway will be extended by 110 km to Tigri on the Uttar Pradesh / Uttrakhand Border and by 314 km to Ballia near Varanasi. THe project is estimated to cost Rs. 40,000 crore.

8. Gorakhpur – Siliguri Expressway

The 650-km Expressway connecting Gorakhpur and Siliguri is expected to cost Rs 6,000 crore.

9. Hyderabad–Indore Expressway

An amount of Rs. 4,244 crore would be spent on the Indore-Hyderabad project covering 136 kms in Telangana.

10. Nagpur – Vijayawada

The expressway stretched 405km long with an estimated cost of Rs 15,000 crore.

11. Konkan Greenfield Expressway

The Konkan Expressway by MSRDC runs a length of 450km and costs Rs 25,000 crore. It is a proposed 6 lane access-controlled highway with a route alignment in Maharashtra connecting Panvel (Navi Mumbai) and Sindhudurg via Raigad and Ratnagiri.

12. Kurnool Feeder Expressway

The Kurnool Feeder Expressway runs a stretch of 123.7 km with the project costing Rs 7,293 crore.

13. Nagpur-Gondia-Gadchiroli Expressway

The expressway is proposed to be 450km long.

14. Nagpur–Hyderabad–Bengaluru Expressway 

The Nagpur-Hyderabad-Bengaluru Expressway is proposed to be 1,100 km long and will connect the cities of Nagpur in Maharashtra, Hyderabad in Telangana and Bengaluru in Karnataka. It is expected to cost Rs 35,000 crore.

15. Narmada Expressway

The Narmada Expressway by NHAI stretched 900km and costs Rs 31,000 crore. It is a proposed 6 lane access-controlled highway with a route alignment connecting Alirajpur and Amarkantak in Madhya Pradesh.

16. Outer Ring Road Amaravati

The ORR is currently under the National Highway Development Programme (NHDP) Phase-VII. The road is proposed to be an eight-lane road with service roads on both sides it is estimated to cost around Rs 20,000 crore.

Speaking in Rajya Sabha, Minister for Road Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari informed that the National Highway Authority of India (NHAI) is building over 1.47 lakh km of roads in the country. A few of the projects are still in their early stage of land acquisition while the others are inching closer towards construction.
