Former WWE and WCW Champion Sid Vicious, real name Sidney Raymond Eudy, has passed away at the age of 63 following a long battle with cancer. The news was shared by his son, Gunnar Eudy, in an emotional post on Facebook.
Gunnar’s heartfelt message read, “In Memory of My Father, Sid Eudy. Dear friends and family, I am deeply saddened to share that my father, Sid Eudy, has passed away after battling cancer for several years. He was a man of strength, kindness, and love, and his presence will be greatly missed. We appreciate your thoughts and prayers as we grieve this loss. Details for a memorial service will be shared soon. Thank you for your support."
Sid Vicious was one of the most imposing and charismatic figures in professional wrestling, known for his towering 6’9" frame and his intense persona. He made his mark in 1989 when he signed with WCW, where he wrestled against some of the biggest names in the industry, including The Steiner Brothers, The Road Warriors, and The Four Horsemen.
Sid’s WWE debut came in 1991 under the name Sid Justice. He quickly made an impact as the Special Guest Referee at SummerSlam, where WWE Champion Hulk Hogan and The Ultimate Warrior faced The Triangle of Terror in a 3-on-2 Handicap Match.
After a brief hiatus, Sid returned to WWE in 1995 as “Sycho Sid." He aligned himself with Shawn Michaels, serving as his bodyguard at WrestleMania XI, where Michaels faced Diesel for the WWE Title. This partnership soon turned into an intense rivalry, culminating in Sid winning the WWE Championship from Michaels at Survivor Series 1996. Sid would go on to capture the WWE Championship for a second time by defeating Bret Hart in February 1997, solidifying his legacy as one of the toughest and most thrilling superstars in WWE history.
Throughout his career, Sid was also a two-time WCW World Heavyweight Champion, headlining major events such as WrestleMania VIII, WrestleMania XIII, and the final WCW Starrcade in 2000. His career was tragically cut short in 2001 when he suffered a severe leg injury during a match against Scott Steiner, though he did make occasional returns to the ring, with his final match taking place in 2017.
The wrestling community has been quick to pay tribute to Sid, with many sharing their memories and condolences.
Booker T, Sid’s WCW colleague and WWE legend, wrote on Twitter, “Without Sid Vicious, I don’t think my brother and I would have made it to WCW. His impact on this business was undeniable, and he paved the way for so many of us. My deepest condolences to his family during this difficult time. #RIPSid"
