US national security adviser Jake Sullivan on Monday met Prime Minister Narendra Modi after meeting with counterpart Ajit Doval.

The US NSA had also met external affairs minister S Jaishankar earlier.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi told Sullivan that India remains committed to strengthening the India-US Comprehensive Global Strategic Partnership.

“Met US National Security Advisor Jake Sullivan. India is committed to further strengthen the India-US Comprehensive Global Strategic Partnership for global good,” PM Modi said, sharing photos of his meeting with Jake Sullivan.

Earlier in the day Doval and Sullivan held extensive talks focussed on the implementation of the ambitious India-US Initiative on Critical and Emerging Technologies (iCET). They also discussed the state of bilateral defence ties and regional security situation.

Sullivan is visiting Delhi from June 17 to 18, in the first trip to India by a senior Biden administration official after the Modi government came to power for the third term.

The US National Security Adviser (NSA) is accompanied by a high-level delegation comprising senior US government officials and industry leaders.

Sullivan’s visit to India came three days after Prime Minister Narendra Modi and US President Joe Biden had a brief conversation on the sidelines of the G7 summit in Italy’s Apulia region.

NSAs Doval and Sullivan also discussed the proposed India-Middle East-Europe Economic Corridor (IMEC) and also the delay in its rollout due to the security situation in West Asia.

Doval and Sullivan have been working to put the iCET framework into action, focusing on increasing India-US cooperation in new and emerging technologies.

These technologies include semiconductors, artificial intelligence, quantum computing, defence innovation, space exploration and advanced telecommunications.

The iCET was launched by PM Modi and President Biden on the sidelines of the Quad summit in Tokyo on May 24, 2022.

India and the US have expanded the iCET framework to cover new areas such as biotechnology, critical minerals and rare earths processing technologies, digital connectivity, digital public infrastructure, and advanced materials.
