Chennai: A "cheerful and healthy" Tamil Nadu Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa is interacting on "important issues with VIPs" and is likely to be discharged in a few days with physiotherapists from Singapore attending on her, a senior AIADMK leader said on Tuesday.
"Amma is able to talk, have her own food and all. She is very cheerful and very healthy. She is consuming semi-solid food," AIADMK leader and party spokesperson C Ponnaiyan told PTI.
He said the 68-year-old was holding discussions on important issues with VIPs, in an apparent reference to those in the government, through use of electronic gadgets.
He, however, did not specify what kind of electronic gadgets or tools were being used.
"All the parameters (of Jayalalithaa) are absolutely alright. She is interacting on important issues with VIPs. We are in the electronic world. Amma is likely to be discharged in a few days. She will come out with flying colours to attend to political agenda as well as the government," Ponnaiyan said.
Jayalalithaa was admitted to Apollo Hospitals with acute lung infection, he said, adding, the ailment also put some pressure on her heart.
However, the best treatment has ensured she is relieved of the said problems, Ponnaiyan added.
"The lung infection had resulted in formation of sputum and lung congestion, affecting the lungs and to a certain extent putting pressure to her heart as well," he said.
Apollo Hospital, he claimed was one of the best in the country and had ensured top doctors like London-based Richard Beale besides those from AIIMS treated Jayalalithaa.
"As on date, Amma is completely relieved of the lung infection and her heart condition is also excellent now. There is no problem at all. Physiotherapy by Singapore specialists is continuing. That might continue for another few days, especially to normalise standing up and walking," he said.
Asked when Jayalalithaa would be shifted to a normal ward, Ponnaiyan said the AIADMK supremo was in ICU as she had lung infection and was taking rest.
The medical authorities have said she will be shifted to a normal ward any time in the coming days, he said, referring to hospital Chairman Pratap C Reddy's statement that she has completely recovered and that it was up to her to decide on when to return home.
Ponnaiyan said the visit of national leaders, including BJP bigwigs Arun Jaitley and Amit Shah and Congress Vice President Rahul Gandhi, to the hospital to enquire about the Chief Minister's health "shows the respect and regard they have for Amma".
Jayalalithaa was admitted to the hospital on September 22 after she complained of fever and dehydration. Later, the hospital had said she was being treated for infection with respiratory support, among others.
Specialists from All India Institute of Medical Sciences, New Delhi, and from London, among others, have treated her.
