New Delhi: It remains a distant dream for India but China’s newly launched bullet train can run at a maximum speed of 400 kmph, with a consistent speed of 350 kmph. If such a train was to ply on Delhi-Mumbai route, it would cover the distance of 1400 km within four hours. China has introduced the train on its busiest Beijing-Shanghai line.
The first CR400AF model bullet trains departed from Beijing and Shanghai simultaneously at 11:05 AM on Monday. The trains took about five hours and 45 minutes to reach their destination.
Beijing-Shanghai route caters to 505,000 passengers a day. The train was designed and manufactured by China, according to local news reports.
The train includes a sophisticated monitoring system that constantly checks its performance and automatically slows the train in case of emergencies.
A remote data-transmission system, a control centre will be able to monitor the train in real time. Lu Dongfu, general manager of China Railway Corporation, operator of the new train, said the train underpins the unique role that high-speed railway has played in China’s economic and social development.
China has the world’s longest railway network with 22,000 km, about 60 per cent of the world’s total rail route.
