China: Man Stuffs 100 Live Snakes In His Pants In A Bid To Smuggle Them, Held
Customs agents at the Hong Kong airport caught the man who was trying to smuggle 100 live snakes through the airport.

Chinese officials caught a man trying to smuggle more than 100 live snakes through customs by stuffing them in his pants, local news outlets said in a report.

The traveller, who attempted to sneak the reptiles out of an airport of the semi-autonomous region of Hong Kong into Shenzhen province, remains unidentified.

Chinese customs officials said that they found snakes were found in the pockets of the trousers of the flyer. “(The) customs officers discovered that the pockets of the trousers the passenger was wearing were packed with six canvas drawstring bags and sealed with tape,” the Chinese customs officials said, according to CBS.

“Once opened, each bag was found to contain living snakes in all kinds of shapes, sizes and colours,” the officials said.

“Those who break the rules will be… held liable in accordance with the law,” the customs officials said but did not specify the punishment the flyer received.

Chinese customs officials also released video of the incident where stunned border agents are seen looking into the transparent bags filled with squirming snakes.

They seized 104 snakes and said many of them were non-native species.

A report by CBS said that China is among the world’s largest hubs for illegal animal trafficking but authorities have taken efforts only recently to suppress the illegal acts.

China also has strict biosecurity and disease control rules that prohibit people from bringing non-native species into the country without permission.
