The Uttar Pradesh Police launched an investigation after a video of a woman holding a gun and lip-syncing to a song in the middle of the road went viral on social media.

The video, shared by an X user named Kalyanji Chaudhary, claimed that the woman seen lip-syncing to the song while holding a gun is Instagram influencer Simran Yadav from Lucknow.

“Instagram star Simran Yadav of Lucknow is openly flouting the law and code of conduct by waving a pistol on the highway and making a video viral to show off her community’s power in the society, but the officials are maintaining silence,” Chaudhary wrote in his post shared on May 9.

Chaudhary added to the thread that, “Simran Yadav has no fear of the administration, she has posted the same post again on Instagram.”

According to a screenshot shared by Chaudhary, Simran Yadav has over 1.6 million followers on Instagram.

Commenting on Chaudhary’s post, the Uttar Pradesh Police instructed the Lucknow police to investigate the matter. In response, the Lucknow police confirmed that a comprehensive investigation had been launched.

The video, which drew the attention of numerous X users, triggered criticism for Yadav on the social media platform.

A user called upon UP CM Yogi Adityanath to intervene, commenting, “Aditya Bhai said that immediate action should be taken, why should this situation arise, Facebook and YouTube should be banned in our country, people will neither become reels nor will the society face any problem, the rest are Yadavs so Advocate Sir is saying that there is a violation of rules.”

Another user wrote, “Fake guns and revolvers should be banned in India. Keep in mind that in the coming times, a case will be registered for lathi. A license will be made for lathi as well. Lathi is also an illegal weapon. A lathi can take someone’s life. That’s why it is requested to the government that all lathis and all weeds should be licensed.”

While another user raised doubts, suggesting it could be a toy gun, commenting, “But to me it looks like a toy pistol. Which is used in dancing and singing.. How can you say after watching the video that it is real? Pay some attention to the other aspect as well.”

“Looks like a bit of girlie fun to me! Could we allow them that bit if leeway, rather than policing their lives right through!,” a user commented.
