A man, reportedly hailing from West Bengal, recently voiced his dissatisfaction with Tata on social media after acquiring a brand-new Tata Tiago EV XZ Plus Tech LUX, valued at Rs. 12 lakhs, that exhibited manufacturing flaws. Sharing images and videos on the micro-blogging site ‘X,’ Chitrabhanu Pathak disclosed how the attempts to address issues at the service centre resulted in unsuccessful spot welding.
In his post, Pathak wrote, “A gift from Tata Motors. A underprepared Tiago EV XZPLUS TECHLUX car from Tata Motors. Paid twelve lac rupees to get this luxury car but got a faulty one with major manufacturing defects. Service center spot welded to stop the cranking noise from the car. But all in vein (vain).” The post, now with over 104K views, featured images depicting dents on the door, interior structure, and various areas, all documented at the service centre.
Accompanying videos provided a detailed look, with Pathak highlighting persistent strange noises while driving. Pathak also mentioned that despite his car being over eight months old, it hasn’t shown improvement: “I wrote to them (Tata) to replace with a new car or refund me or give me appropriate compensation. I did not receive any reply regarding this yet.”
In response to the post, individuals commented, with one expressing skepticism about Tata’s quality control: “I thought Tata’s has taken care of such quality issues. Looks like I’m wrong yet again. Everything is so superficial these days!!” Another commented on Tata Motors’ reputation, stating, “@TataMotors spoilt their reputation once many years ago due to their degraded service. They had a tough time to review themselves in the market. Looks like now again after emerging again, they haven’t got rid of their old habits. This might take another downfall for them to learn.”

A third speculated on potential issues, suggesting, “This car probably is not from the assembly line of Tata Motors. If it is then the whole batch will have similar problems. This can be also a case of Dealer-2nd hand car sale nexus which usually is common. You may have booked a new car but dealer will give you a refurbished car.”
Meanwhile, this incident adds to another recent case involving Tata, where a man shared his disappointment after receiving a supposedly ‘defective’ brand-new Tata Nexon from a seller in Bengaluru. Sharath Kumar, on Instagram, posted a video illustrating how he and his family were surprised by a defective car after eagerly going to receive the Tata Nexon he had ordered for Rs. 18.2 lakhs.
