Being in a doctor’s clinic and getting an injection is a sure-shot way of making a toddler cry. Most kids become fussy when they are inside the sterile and unfamiliar environment of a doctor’s clinic. Now, when they get a shot they become all the more restless and break into tears. Even though the injection doesn’t hurt much, the shock factor plays a big role in making the baby nervous. Pediatricians and nurses often try to minimise the toddler’s discomfort by distracting them and sneakily administering the injection. A recent video, which shows a doctor administering an injection on a baby with ease, is raking in likes.
The video shows Dr Imran S Patel, a pediatrician at the Asian Children Hospital in Ahmedabad, engaging with a baby. The baby responds to him by giggling. Patel then administers the injection while making sure that the baby’s attention is on him. Just a few seconds after getting the injection, it appears that the baby will break into tears but Dr Imran manages to promptly distract the baby. He also puts a bandaid over the spot where he gave the injection without catching the baby’s attention.

This clip has over 12 lakh likes since it was posted on December 24. In the comments, many people praised Dr Imran for his sweet engagement with the young patient. Appreciating him, an Instagram user wrote, “Good job Doc…." Another person said, “Itne pyare doctor hmare time me kyu nhi hote the….hmare time me to hum rote the to mummy papa alag marte the… (We did not have such sweet doctors while growing up…at our time our mummy papa would beat us if we cried)". An Instagram user jokingly stated, “Baby is still confused whether to cry or not". Someone else noted, “I would say, let her cry but do the injection properly."
Back in November 2019, a similar video went viral that showed a Scottish doctor distracting a baby by singing ‘Unforgettable’ by Nat King Cole as he drew blood using a syringe.
The doctor in the video was identified as Dr Ryan Coetzee who was at the time working at the Raigmore Hospital. The baby with Down Syndrome was captivated by the doctor’s singing and did not react during the medical procedure.
