When you wake up in the morning, you are on most occasions, greeted with a blazing fireball in the sky, the Sun. How would you react if you saw not one or two but seven suns in the sky? Well, skygazers in China were in a state of shock. The bizarre incident was reportedly recorded in Chengdu, Sichuan in South-West China. Reportedly, the clip was captured by a woman named Ms Wang from the 11th floor of a hospital. Is it a cosmic phenomenon or an optical illusion? The unusual footage showed seven suns in a row in the sky, each burning with a different intensity. As per reports, the phenomenon lasted for just 60 seconds and looked spectacular. Well, this bizarre display of suns was not a cosmic phenomenon, but just an optical illusion. The clip showed seven suns due to the refraction of light through each pane of glass in the hospital window, creating these virtual images of the Sun.

The video went viral on the internet and the caption read, “Seven ‘Suns’ appear in China’s Sichuan sky: viral video shows multiple suns In Chengdu skies, a stunning phenomenon due to refraction and dispersion of light!” The internet was left amused at this cosmic event. A user wrote, “I’ve never in 47 years seen such a thing but there’s a very reasonable explanation.” Another wrote, “That is fake.”
On other social media platforms, internet users debated whether the video was fake or VFX was used to create a special effect. One wrote, “How much did China pay for graphics artists?” Another wondered, “If this incident happened in the sky then why is only one video available on the internet? Are mobile phones and cameras banned in that city? This is just a beginner VFX student’s video project.”
Few who believed the clip’s authenticity blamed the country’s pollution which created the distorted optical illusion of seven suns.
